Donna Vermeer is an award-winning documentary director whose programming niche explores culture, politics and the mysteries of the natural world. She has filmed best practices and lessons learned knowledge sharing stories for UNDP in Africa, as well as for the World Banks, and has produced a film on the Greenbelt Movement in Kenya with Nobel Peace Prize recipient and women’s, environmental, and political activist Wangari Maathai. She has produced two documentaries on UN conferences, including the UN Global Women’s Conferences and the Rio Earth Summit for PBS. Her documentary credits include the PBS documentary For Richer or Poorer with Al Gore, which considers the chasm between the haves and have-nots in the rural areas most affected by East Asia’s “miracle” economies; For The Long Run, which won a Cine Award; and Life Out of Bounds, the story of species extinction. She received a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Grant to develop global media
on sustainable development.
