The Shape Up The Nation Mission
We believe that social incentives drive behavior change. The only way that we can truly improve health is by connecting people with those who care about them the most—colleagues, friends, family—and empowering them to succeed through motivation, support, and accountability.
None of us are independent, free agents who solely determine our own health. The truth is that we are greatly influenced by the people around us. If those people are aware of and aligned with our goals, they create an environment that is conducive to our success.
New scientific research is illuminating exactly how important our social network is in determining our own health. As Dr. Nicholas Christakis concluded, “People are connected—so their health is connected.” Health behaviors spread from person–to–person, and we harness that phenomenon to transform the well–being of entire populations.
As health care systems become more complex, there is a clear need for a simple, central place where people can access
Shape Up The Nation is a fun and vibrant place to work. Our employees live by a “work hard, play hard” mentality that couples high standards and challenging goals with an environment that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and lots of fun.
Life at Shape Up The Nation
When we're not trying to change the world by bringing people together to improve their health, you might find our colleagues playing Wii Fit in our onsite exercise room, tossing a football around the office, training for a relay triathlon along the Naragansset Bay, skydiving in Newport, or whitewater rafting in the Berkshire Mountains on one of our quarterly company outdoor adventures.
