Altaeros Energies seeks an engineer to assume a key role in installing and maintaining the electronics suite for our summer, 2013 flight prototype. This prototype is intended to demonstrate extended, high-wind performance, compared with Altaeros’ first prototype, flown in the winter of 2012 (see a short demo video at www.altaerosenergies.com).
The engineer will be responsible for integrating wire harnesses and sensor suites onto the ground station and airborne system and will be responsible for validation testing and maintenance of these systems throughout prototype testing. The work will contain a blend of electrical design, integration, and testing on both high-voltage, high-power AC systems (winches and other gear-motors) and low-power, small-scale DC controls electronics. Thus, a breadth of experience in power systems, circuit design, and assembly is desirable.
The internship will last a minimum of 12 weeks, and compensation will be based on experience. The position will consist of travel to and on-site work at Altaeros’ test site.
Assemble the remainder of the wire harness components on the ground station and airborne system prior to flight testing.
Perform component-level validation testing of the electronics system prior to flight testing.
Maintain system electronics throughout flight testing.
Hands-on experience designing and implementing electronics hardware, including SMD soldering, wire harness design, circuit design, etc.
Experience with CAN a major plus
Experience working in a team environment
Strong organizational skills
Experience building integrated systems out of several components (projects like Solar Car, Grand Challenge, etc. are a major plus)
Passionate and fun attitude
Junior-level, senior-level, or graduate in electrical engineering or a related field
