Flocabulary, a rapidly-growing web application that uses hip-hop music and interactive content to engage and teach K-12 students, is seeking an Application Support Developer to help improve our Python (Django) codebase, as well as troubleshoot and resolve issues with our technology stack. We're a small company dedicated to the idea that a motivated student is a more successful student, and we pride ourselves on making learning tools that kids and teachers love. Flocabulary is a dynamic start-up with opportunities for growth.
We’re looking for someone with inquisitiveness and a knack for problem-solving to help us diagnose, solidify, and build on our cloud/API-centric technology stack (Amazon/Recurly/Salesforce/more). While improving existing systems will be the focus at first, opportunities to shape and implement new features will grow as you continue at Flocabulary.
As the second developer on a small team with a large userbase of over 150k registered users in our first year, this role is a chance to have instant impact on an exciting product by:
Enhancing important areas of our application in response to user feedback as well as internal company goals
Ensuring the stability of our processes by identifying and resolving problems
Assisting users with technical questions and issues
Designing and building dynamic new features that will help students learn more quickly and effectively
Helping us achieve scale and reliability via automated testing and cloud infrastructure
A roll-up-your-sleeves mentality in terms of tracking down and resolving issues
Experience with one or more of the common web frameworks (Ideally Django; Rails ok.)
Familiarity with one or more modern version control systems
Ideally front-end (JS/JQuery) development experience
CS degree or related field strongly preferred
Strong communication skills with non-technical contacts
This is a full-time position located in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Salary is commensurate with experience. We offer health, dental and vision benefits.
