Applications Architect/Developer
We're a predominantly Ruby/Rails shop, but recognize when other technologies are more suited to some challenges. We are looking for an experienced software architect to add to the team and help us scale our systems to the next level (which includes migrating to a more SOA and re-factoring our site). Our real time data needs are becoming more demanding. To support our increasing numbers of customers, we need to continue to refine and optimize our application. This person will do about 50% architecting, 50% development (will fluctuate depending on needs).
We need smart, innovative creative thinkers to help us solve complex challenges associated with building robust, fault-tolerant, high-performance, scalable systems.

Permits 250 plus “add to cart” / sec

We use Puppet for CM, Nagios for monitoring
We have 269 servers, using a Linux/Amazon EC2 platform

Other interesting stats:
10,000 queries per second
250GB production dataset, 5TB reporting data in MySQL
40MB/s data transfer from load balancers
8.1TB a day served from CDN peaking at 2.1Gb/s
40k Riak gets/min
2k Riak puts/min
3+ years of Development experience (and around 2 years of Architecture experience within that would be great) and a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
Experience on big systems and web applications with real load
Experience with Ruby, RoR
Oriented Design (Ruby experience a HUGE plus, not a must, however)
Worked with service orientated architectures
Experience with consuming/exposing SOAP and rest web services
Worked with message queuing protocols
A good understanding of MySQL performance
Ability to work in a small, geographically-distributed team using collaboration tools (Skype, IM, email, jira)
Must be detail-oriented and thorough in designing, documenting, coding and testing
Nice to have:
Experience with NoSQL/schema-less databases
Worked with EC2/S3 or similar cloud environment
Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems
Experience of html5 local storage
Used web sockets
Experience using memory profiling techniques
Familiarity with subversion
up to 140K, d.o.e.
