Responsibilities
You are excited at the challenge of figuring out how to handle high-velocity data at 3,000,000 inserts/s while simultaneously analyzing it and transforming it into actionable intelligence
You like to roll up your sleeves and dig deep to figure out what is going on under the covers. You do not settle for merely treating the symptoms and instead go right after the root cause.
You have broad exposure to both traditional (RDBMS) and non-traditional (schema-less, NoSQL) database management systems - and most importantly can exercise sound judgment in determining the right tool for the job.
You possess a metrics-oriented approach to performance optimization and do not work on gut feelings alone.
You are keen to understand and listen to the needs of the business.
You work well with developers and ideally have a development background too.
You learn very quickly and eagerly.
You are a source of new ideas and are able to effectively demonstrate their value.
You inspire others with your ninja-like skills at solving tough data problems.
You enjoy keeping up with advances in database technology.
Experience
Very strong database background - particularly OLAP/data warehousing
Strong logical and physical data design skills
SQL - especially complex queries
Exposure to large-scale database environments
Experience with NoSQL
Experience with Linux
Vertica expertise (or other similar column-oriented DBMS) is a major plus.
Knowledge of network security is preferred
