An exciting Boston area ecommerce start-up at the intersection of innovative business trends including, social commerce is recruiting a CTO to take the business to the next level. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the CTO will build and manage a talented, creative and energetic engineering team. The CTO will be responsible for architecting, documenting and building world class product in addition to managing schedules, technology resources and budgets.
The ideal candidate has proven leadership, ideally in an e-Commerce, Media or Direct-to-Consumer company and has effectively worked in both early stage and growth stage company environments, proving the ability to scale a development team and the technology platform to serve millions of monthly unique visitors. We are looking for a candidate who is a team builder with a minimum of 10 years of technology/development experience, gets excited about implementing innovative technology under tight time lines and is comfortable as both a technical and personnel manager.
Provide technical vision for product and infrastructure features
Work with Marketing/Product Management to enhance the user experience
Recruit and manage a highly talented internal development team
Manage external contractors
Manage the development process and release schedule
Mentor developers, define and document development methods, and share best practices
Review and recommend improvements to product architecture
Conduct code reviews and provide technical recommendations
Oversee a scalable server / hardware infrastructure
Company-wide IT leadership
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Experience managing a development team in projects with tight schedules
10+ years of web development and social and ecommerce and experience
Experience in gaming a strong plus
Strong focus on user experience, design, and usability for consumers – (and internal tools)
Experience creating web applications that scale for hundreds of thousands/millions of users, ideally with Ruby on Rails experience.
Excellent communications, presentation, and writing skills: must be able to articulate complex technical concepts in simple terms to audiences of varying technical acumen
Interest in working in an early stage fast-paced startup environment
BA/BS degree – CS/EE/Engineering degree preferred
Sense of humor and positive attitude essential!
Must be hands on and have proven experience scaling a team.
