An early stage start up is looking for a technical co-founder to serve in the role of a Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Current structure is CEO and development team. CEO is accomplished entrepreneur with previous two tech start-ups successfully launched and sold, Harvard Business School MBA and prior engineer.
A beta version of the product has already been launched and has excellent initial traction. This is a Health2.0 consumer facing wellness venture, a segment of the market that is $11 billion and growing. To date, the venture it is self-funded and has a number of prominent Silicon Valley VCs interested. VC investment is dependent on completing the team with the addition of the CTO.
The role of the CTO will be to steer the successful development and execution of the technology roadmap with proposed timeliness and deliverables.
Due to the nature of a startup, the CTO needs to be both hands-on and strategic. He/she must be a great architect, PHP developer, evangelist, interface designer and incredible debugger. The CTO will own all technical aspects of the business and manage any technical resources or team members as the company grows. The CTO will work with the developer team and be interested in providing advice and direction on other areas of business when requested.
The ideal candidate will be a veteran of the software industry whose skill set straddles consumer/software/social media/lead generation, who is interested in a high growth start-up in an exciting industry.
With the company's founder, identify opportunities and risks for delivering the company’s vision.
Own the development from beginning to end, QA, timely deployment, put into place all procedures, monitor performance and ensure clear documentation.
Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms (including web application frameworks and the development stack), for delivering the company's services.
Lead strategic planning to achieve business goals by identifying and prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for the evaluation, development, and deployment of all hardware and web-based services.
Direct development and execution of an information security plan that protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the company’s data and servers.
Select and set up a web based internal communication systems, such as wiki, blog, chat room, project management, and bug tracking systems.
Create the business requirement documents with wireframes, which will be used to guide the ongoing software development, including mobile and tablet applicaitons.
Lead the device and platform integration.
Select and manage staff and local and offshore development employees to ensure on time delivery and exceptional quality of product and service for customers.
3+ years in a senior management technology role.
5+ years working within e-commerce and software development companies.
Experience with consumer lead-generation technology and software, highly desired.
Hands-on experience coding in more than one currently popular web application framework.
Ability to discern user requirements and develop specifications.
Familiarity with technical requirements of Internet marketing and search engine optimization (SEO).
Experience in being a founding member of at least one business from start-up to significant revenue stage and acquisition, a huge plus.
Experience in working for at least early stage through liquidity event startups.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
BS or MS in Computer Science
