Chief Software Architect

We seek a Chief Software Architect who will serve as the most senior technical leader within the unit. The Chief Software Architect is responsible for the architectural approaches to software design used on all projects and for maintaining processes of technical staff recruiting, training, standard setting, and governance to achieve a coherent technology strategy across the organization. The Chief Software Architect will maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies and approaches to software development and communicate these throughout the organization. A skilled collaborator will be able to leave his or her mark on our overall approach to technology.

Identify technology trends and emerging learning needs and opportunities
Establish technology governance processes that ensure a coherent approach to software development
Select or define the unit's software development and implementation methodology, including: coding conventions, documentation standards, testing protocols, development releases, performance monitoring
Set and enforce standards to insure information security and operational continuity
Establish standards of performance and monitor conformance for staff (through performance reviews) and vendors (through service level agreements)
Essential Qualifications:
BS in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering
In-depth knowledge of all of the following areas necessary: object oriented programing, SQL database programming, web development, complex system programming, software project management
Demonstrated ability to envision web-based services that meet consumer needs or solve business problems
2 years experience managing web application development
Exposure to business theory, business process development, governance processes, management, and administrative operations
Outstanding communication and collaboration skills
Demonstrated problem solving skills on large and small scale issues
The following qualifications are strongly desired in any candidate:
2 years experience in a start-up environment
Exceptional service orientation
Ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in computer science or business administration
Experience leading software development within a unit
Experience with mobile application development
Experience with php, mysql, and open source software
Individuals with some academic or professional background in education, cognitive psychology, or related disciplines are highly desired.
