Jumo, a web start-up with an ambitious global mission, is currently hiring front-end developers. Jumo was founded by Chris Hughes, co-founder of facebook.com and former coordinator of online organizing for the Obama campaign. We're currently looking for hard-working developers who value intellectual challenge, appreciate the importance of online networking technology, and, most importantly, want to change the world. Our small and dynamic team works out of a beautiful and sunny SoHo loft in New York City.
Expert with front-end technologies. This includes substantial javascript development as well as the ability to read, write, and build using HTML, CSS, and JS by hand.
Expert in the use of one or more common javascript frameworks (e.g., YUI, Prototype, JQuery)
Ability to work independently and think creatively about technical solutions to human problems. You will not be considered a technologist executing specs handed to you.
Ability to grasp the big picture and have big ideas with the courage to voice them
A drive to develop new skills
A solid understanding of web architecture, object-oriented software, and design patterns
An understanding of good UI design. While you don't need to be a visual designer, you should be able to put together a compelling prototype without a designer holding your hand.
Comfortable working in a Linux environment. Have you grepped anything lately?
The competence and confidence to own your own work. Early in the project you will be the sole front-end developer.
A passion for building great software coupled with an enthusiasm for engaging in rapid prototyping and fast-paced development
In-depth understanding of scalability and the challenges that fast-growing web applications experience
