Overview
CollegeHumor is seeking a Database Administrator. CollegeHumor is growing and we need someone to focus on all aspects of our data storage and delivery. You will work with our small talented team of developers on a number of large high profile websites which include: CollegeHumor, Bustedtees, TodaysBIGthing, SportsPickle, Dorkly as well as contribute to a number of internal tools and services. Collectively our sites reach over 15 million users every month. This role has primary responsibility for maintenance and design of data storage and delivery services.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Design and document database architecture and data modeling
Write and manage scripts to collect, store and access data from a number of sources
Manage and oversee expansion of database clusters
Manage and oversee expansion memcached server pools
Improving existing monitoring tools to alert staff of issues
Automate query profiling, working with developers to improve site performance
Manage and improve disaster recovery procedures
Develop analytics tools for internal use
Install and test upgrades and patches
Ensure 99.999% uptime
Evaluate and recommend new database technologies
Experience
Required Skills:
3+ years experience administering large MySQL databases
5+ years experience administering Linux servers
Expertise in PHP5, Linux and memcache required
Expertise tuning Linux for MySQL
Experience working with large memcache installations
Experience benchmarking and evaluating servers
An understanding of the issues surrounding large-volume websites and scalability
Experience with nosql databases (MongoDB a plus)
Strong understanding of OOP and MVC methodologies
A pre-occupation with learning new technology staying on top of industry trends
