We are looking for a talented coder as we expand our development efforts from our offices in Downtown Pittsburgh. You would own the majority of day-to-day coding for the backend systems that power Rent Jungle’s data-gathering systems under the supervision of our Lead Developer and/or our Founder/CEO. Your primary responsibility will be to improve, update, and expand the spider behind rentjungle.com.
A strong understanding of server side development, unstructured data, spidering and search, and database technology is a plus. If you do have search experience, please highlight this in your resume. You should also have experience with, or a strong desire to learn, Python (since you'll be coding in Python). No Python experiance is necessary, just a willingness to learn.
We are a fast-paced, small, startup company. As the perfect candidate, you must thrive in unstructured environments where deadlines and product requirements change frequently. We work long hours and have lots of fun doing it.
Feel free to send over some examples of your code or to write something to send along with your application. If you love coding, and like to have fun and learn new things. Drop us a line. We always like meeting new people.
Work with our development team to make our spider more awesome.
Update and maintain spidering systems on an ongoing basis.
Be a critical voice in the direction of the product and implement company strategy into the user experience
2 years or so of professional experience or equivalent project work that you can show us from your own hobbies or school assignments
Easy going and comfortable with ambiguity and lack of structure (and the occasional monkey flying across the room)
Familiarity with social networking platforms including Facebook (you've heard of Facebook, right?), Twitter, LinkedIn, and Blogs.
Passion for entrepreneurship
Any or all of the following would be awesome, but not required:
MySQL / PostgreSQL
Working knowledge of social network APIs
Experience using Git, or other version control systems.
Experience working with a startup.
Linux/Apache Server Administration
Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2, SQS, etc)
You have learned how to write code somewhere; High school, university, your basement.
