With over 23,000 alumni and thousands more corps members, Teach For America is seeking a Director of Digital Alumni Engagement to help leverage social media to connect, support and engage our growing force for educational equity across the country. The director will create a vision for how the alumni affairs team can most effectively leverage TFANet, our organization intranet for engaging alumni, corps member and staff, and existing social media platforms to connect alumni locally and nationally, as well as support our existing work across the team. Ideally this person will also play a key role in using social media as a central part of galvanizing local educational equity movements throughout the nation. The ideal candidate will have an innovative mind, experience leverage social media for campaign purposes, and a deep passion for and connection to the movement for educational equity.
The Alumni Affairs team works to foster the leadership of our alumni as a force for social change and strengthens the community of alumni. By working with regions to create visions and strategies to fuel transformational change in communities around the country with alumni leadership, clarifying and accelerating pathways to leadership, creating and executing forums for advancing thinking on issues of educational equity, and establishing and encouraging meaningful ways to connect and support each other and Teach For America, we aim to help alumni achieve their individual goals while maximizing their collective contribution to the movement for educational equity.
Because of our experiences working for change across the country, Teach For America has built leadership initiatives that work to inspire and support alumni focused on change within the educational system as leaders at the classroom, school and system level and alumni focused on driving the next group of critical innovations through social entrepreneurship. The team also works to support alumni in pursuing high impact careers in a range of other fields.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Working alongside our digital marketing team and others to craft a vision for how TFA can leverage digital technology, including social media, TFANet and other means, in order to connect, inform and inspire TFA alumni locally and nationally
Create and enhance resources / best practices that will enable local and national alumni staff to strategically and efficiently utilize digital technology on their own, as well as provide on going support/goals to help staff maximize their presence online
Work alongside TFANet marketing team to enhance TFANet as a tool for alumni affairs teams locally and regionally
Work alongside national alumni team to consider how digital technology can enhance and replace core team functions (e.g., school leadership, alumni giving, volunteer opportunities, events attendance, newsletters, surveys, etc.)
Greatly increase frequency of alumni and alumni staff usage of TFANet
Develop alumni social media goals and metrics that will help us create benchmarks for digital success
Candidate Profile and Experience Requisites
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong organization skills, great attention to detail
Fluency with social media, including some experience using it for external marketing purposes and/or experience using it for campaigning
Ability to adapt and be flexible in an entrepreneurial environment
Ability to develop and cultivate effective relationships with diverse internal stakeholders, and motivate them in contributing to a shared goal
Deep commitment to the mission and demonstrated knowledge base of current education reform across the country
Demonstrated commitment to the vision of One Day and the alumni movement in particular
Strong communications skills, including written work and presentations
