Director of Acquisition Marketing

We are looking for an exceptional leader to own the strategic development and execution of Thumbtack’s acquisition programs. Acquisition marketing at Thumbtack is an extraordinarily exciting place to be: the company has been built in large part on acquisition marketing, you will be marketing not only to consumers but also to service professionals, and the audiences to which you will be marketing are large and varied. On one hand, we have built deep expertise in-house in core acquisition marketing techniques and scaled our user base beyond what we dreamed possible years ago. On the other hand, our ambitions are very large and we are still orders of magnitude away from where we want to be. You will be in charge of this team and operation that has been and will remain core to Thumbtack’s success.

As the Director of Acquisition Marketing, you will drive our acquisition strategy and lead a growing team that focuses on introducing new consumers and service professionals to Thumbtack who become loyal customers. You and your team will conceive of, test, and scale successful new online and offline direct marketing campaigns. You’ll also be responsible for supporting the brand marketing team with the same sophisticated analytical and tracking tools you use to measure the effectiveness of acquisition marketing. We’re SEO and SEM experts but are still in the early days of exploring other direct marketing channels; the opportunities for testing and optimizing new campaigns and channels are almost limitless.

About you

- You are hyper-analytical and passionate about testing, data and metrics
- You solve unstructured problems well, are a great strategist and sounding board, and have demonstrated the ability to innovate, adapt, and learn in previous positions
- You are an experienced team-builder, ideally in acquisition marketing
- You have relevant operational experience and are very familiar with the acquisition marketing ecosystem
Grow consumer and service professional signups via acquisition marketing at high volume and low cost
Recruit and manage new hires into the acquisition marketing team
Own the success or failure of acquisition marketing initiatives
Expand our online advertising strategies to include site retargeting, search retargeting, behavioral targeting, sophisticated social marketing, affiliate marketing, display advertising, real time bidding, online video and radio marketing, and beyond
Build a strategic roadmap for the acquisition marketing team by prioritizing tests, channels, and resources; work across the organization to incorporate brand considerations, product and engineering constraints, and company priorities into that roadmap
7+ years of experience in team-building and/or acquisition marketing
Experience building, managing, and developing high-performance teams
Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
In-depth understanding of A/B and multivariate design and analysis of experiments
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional project management skills and attention to detail
Experience using highly-sophisticated online marketing techniques and a wide variety of marketing channels at a consumer-facing internet company (e.g. online travel, online finance, large-scale e-commerce, social gaming)
