Rooftop Media is looking for an outstanding Events Marketing Consultant to join our ranks starting mid-January, 2011. We’ll be gearing up for our Spring programming of our 2011 National College Comedy Competition presented by TBS. This is an exciting and unique event series searching for the funniest students across the country. It’s the NCAA of college comedy.
This position will be a key component in the planning stages, event coordination and execution, through to completion. As the Events Marketing Consultant, you will manage a portfolio of schools participating in the competition. You will be managing all communication, live events and marketing. This is the perfect opportunity to take a leadership role as an event manager and represent a fast-growing and fun company.
Detail Management - An almost OCD-like attention to detail would be ideal. With a tight timeline, you’ll be expected to manage all event details, student information and sponsorship deliverables off your laptop and, often, off the top of your head. A love of spreadsheets is a must. If details seem like a headache to you, this is not your bag.
Logistics and Problem Solving - Events management requires a behind-the-scenes logistics rockstar. You should be able to achieve anything from booking a charter bus to figuring out where to find a photographer in Tulsa, OK on a limited budget for a gig TONIGHT. You don’t need to have done it before, you just need to have the initiative to get it done.
Marketing and Promotion Skills - You have a knack for getting the word out there whether it’s through social media or guerilla tactics. You should be comfortable with Facebook, Twitter, blogging and general forums. In order to ensure awareness on campus, we’ll need you to get creative in how you spread the word – which may include working with Alumni Groups, calling up the campus newspaper or partnering with Greek Life.
Communications - You will be responsible for managing a large, constantly changing list of contacts. They need to receive consistent, timely, error-proof marketing and promotional messages throughout the duration of the event. You should also have some stage presence as you’ll be introducing each event on stage at college campuses and comedy clubs. We’re not expecting you to make any jokes here, just deliver key speaking points. You’ll also need to update the website with competition results and communicate with your team while on the road.
Expert Microsoft Office experience - Your spreadsheets should be highly detailed and organized. We will ask you to perform multiple tasks using them i.e. mail merges, databases, marketing pieces, etc. You should be familiar with Word and Outlook as well.
Self-starter - You will be expected to take what we teach you and run with it independently. If there’s a problem on the road, like a cancellation from the videographer or a flight delay, it’s up to you to find a solution.
Multi-Tasker - It’s a juggling act, so you should be able to switch gears pretty quickly. You’ll serve as the sole point of contact for each school and will be managing students, photographers, street team staff, comics, videographers and school administration.
A love of comedy - This job will be a whole lot more enjoyable if you have an interest in or generally enjoy comedy. You’ll be laughing a lot and meeting very funny people!
Bachelor's degree required.
Compensation will commensurate with skills and experience.
