At DNAnexus we have data visualization and website design problems that you will not find at any other startup. We are building tools for doctors, scientists, and the public to analyze, manage, and visualize the world's DNA.
It is a brave new world. In the last few years, the price to sequence the full human genome (all of your DNA, not just a sample of it) has fallen to the point were it will soon be affordable for a patient to have multiple samples of their whole genome sequenced to help diagnose, analyze, and treat their disease. This will enable, for example, doctors to determine exactly which gene mutation caused a patient’s cancer.
We are a well-funded startup backed by Google Ventures, TPG Biotech, and First Round capital. Our founders, Andreas Sundquist, Arend Sidow, Serafim Batzoglou are world-renowned genomics and bioinformatics experts from Stanford University. We also recently teamed up with Google to develop sra.dnanexus.com which provides user friendly access to sequence data from many research institutions.
The design challenge is to build tools to help the users visualize how their human genome is structured, and if there are any abnormalities, how they are changing. And, this is just one of the many design issues we face.
