Pelican Imaging is seeking a Scientist/Engineer in the area of image quality characterization, analysis and management, modeling, and visual psychophysics, with a very strong knowledge of imaging, and color science. The Image Quality Scientist/Engineer will be responsible for the objective- and subjective- metric characterization of computational camera output quality (image, video, and other camera features), by using existing and novel measures, and for supporting the automation of many of the required tasks with a view toward best practices for a computational camera.
You will apply your expertise to characterize and analyze the image quality of computational cameras, based on a deep understanding of visual psychophysics. Your significant imaging and color science background will support placing this characterization in a broader context, and adapting it to the specifics of an array camera. In addition to applying existing objective and subjective image quality metrics, you will be expected to also consider novel metrics that can further support camera-functionality characterization.
You will work among a group of like-minded technologists who revel in innovative out-of-the box thinking. Additionally, you will work closely with the software ecosystem team members with whom you will deliver automated image quality solutions that can enhance the efficiency of testing and development processes.

7+ years working in the image quality and associated areas
Strong knowledge of imaging, color science, and visual psychophysics
Good understanding of basic modern approaches and algorithms for visual processing
Excellent familiarity with various image quality characterization software and tools, such as Imatest
Proven track record (products/publications/patents) in the image quality and associated areas, is preferred
Solid programming skills in compiled languages (C/C++), and MATLAB, and strong ability to write code implementing image characterization tools as needed
Good interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate image-quality specific concepts/results, whether verbally or in writing
Good understanding of digital photography
