Participate on a database support team responsible for the support of the internal and customer facing Microsoft SQL server databases and related database infrastructure. Supported databases run primarily on MS SQL Server 2005 and 2008 on the Windows Server 2000, 2003 and 2008 operating systems. Primary responsibilities include: database software installation and upgrades, database requirements analysis and design, database creation, database monitoring and tuning, database backup and recovery, and maintenance of existing database support.

***Database Software Installation and Upgrades
Identify server hardware, software and configurations necessary for running MS SQL 2005, and 2008 in an optimal fashion.
May utilize and refine existing process descriptions for database software installation and configuration.
May develop new processes, leveraging new technology, to streamline the process of building new database servers.
***Database Requirements Analysis and Design
Enforcement of database standards
Assess and identify database server resource requirements based on new application and customer requirements.
May develop and maintain data models for databases supported by the MS SQL DBA team
May periodically assess and refine database standards based on new technologies and business direction.
May work with application development teams to design, and review designs for new databases, or changes to existing databases.
***Database Monitoring and Tuning
Review performance stats and recommend changes for tuning database, server, and storage configurations, as well as application sql.
May lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring of database availability and performance.
***Database Backup and Recovery
Participate in backup audits, ensuring all databases and associated logs are being backed-up
Periodically conduct test database restores to validate backup integrity and refresh skills
Gather requirements and make recommendations for application backup and recovery
Implement a new backup and recovery process that leverages new techniques and technology.
Experience working with development teams.
Strong relationship building skills across technical and business teams.
Broad knowledge of technology platforms, products and services.
T-SQL scripting experience writing complex stored procedures.
Experience using SQL profiler.
Data modeling experience
Cleansing, mapping, and transforming Bulk Data Migration on large scale projects
5 + years experience with MS SQL Server 2005 and 2008, clustered SQL Servers, replication, log shipping and database mirroring
Experience with SQL performance and tuning
Experience in a technical support organization
