Overview
The Manufacturing Process Engineer is a key technical role responsible for the implementation and stabilization of all manufacturing processes. Requires strong focus on driving quality into production processes, development and implementation of best practices, and continuous product improvement.
Responsibilities
Evaluate manufacturing process based on one’s own knowledge and the observations of the manufacturing team members.
Execute process improvement plans using a variety of Quality & Continuous Process Improvement tools, including, but not limited to, MTM, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, SPC, engineering studies, DOE and Gauge R&R.
Develop manufacturing processes to meet product requirements and tests manufacturing methods while developing training and evaluation guideline for assembly technicians.
Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods that will test the finished- product and process capabilities.
Support production in 8D responses and regular quality resolution update meetings, including writing problem investigation reports and reviewing supplier corrective actions
Calculate production, labor, and material cost, reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements.
Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Recommend and implement continual improvement initiatives relative to performance and product KPIs
Report daily to Operations groups.
Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations;; develops, implements and champions manufacturing safety initiatives
Interactwith product development teams in compliance to quality and regulatory requirements in all phases of the product development lifecycle. Participate in design reviews, DFMEA, safety reviews, design for manufacturability, and develop test documentation to ensure that quality requirements are met.
Analyze customer complaints and field failures. Coordinates corrective action, follow-up and reporting.
Manage and prepare manufacturing and process documentation for the release to manufacturing.
Encourage communication within work teams, establishes good report and maintains high employee morale.
Experience
5-10 years’ experience on a manufacturing team with a background in product development and manufacturing quality
Knowledge of hardware specifications, manufacturing methods and procedures, plastics and/or sheet-metal manufacturing and packaging
Lean, Six Sigma, TQM and JIT experience a plus
Participation in ISO 9001 or similar quality programs a plus
Experience with appliance, automotive or electromechanical device manufacturing a plus
Experience with ERP and/or inventory management systems
Background Supervising groups of people
Familiarity with 3D printing or MakerBot a plus
Skills
Ability to present technical information and effectively communicate within all levels of the organization around; design verification and validation activities, production & process controls, Corrective & Preventive Action (CAPA), consumer complaints, and product improvement activities.
Understand use of hand tools in assembly lines, ergonomics and safety
Excellent people skills, 'on the shop floor' attitude, hands on
Demonstrated understanding of product development lifecycles, design change and document change control, product and process verification and validation methodologies, and manufacturing / production process control methodologies.
Change agent with energy, passion, and enthusiasm to drive change.
External Focus: Understanding customer needs, industry trends, and the competitive landscape in the industry.

Education
Engineering degree, MS or MBA a plus
