We are using Perl (Moose specifically) to create a system that allows a variety of functions over FTP, MySQL, APIs, and the web. We are doing this to make it easier for end users to maintain websites and have them auto upgrades, as well as delivering files they purchase through our marketplace.
WebPub in one line is going to be an app store for your website + a suite of tools connected to that. An end user will go to WebPub and they will be able to import or install a web script, like WordPress or Drupal, and our system will keep it auto upgraded for them. Plus additional tools like snapshots, remote backups, and similar.
And it will have a marketplace where a user can buy and install with one click themes and add-ons for those scripts. We want to built an economy and eco-system for each script so that designers/developers can sell their products and make building websites easier for end users. The WordPress theme market alone is making around 40 million to 60 million a year in revenue and it is is just a few years old. We want to build out that type of eco system not only for WordPress but also for Magento, Drupal, and other scripts.
Development of the Perl backend system.
Development of the XML API that sits on top of that.
Bug tracking along with other team members problems on the backend.
Overall input on new tools we create etc.
