Patch is a new local news company focused on reinventing community journalism one town at a time. We employ a full-time editor for each community we serve, and create personalized news in towns across the country, encouraging participiation from local users with our high-quality content. We currently have openings for experienced product developers. You have experience building user-focused web applications, are an independant and creative thinker, and have a strong desire to take ownership of software projects at a small but rapidly growing company
Become an expert user of the site, learn it backwards and forwards, and understand it from the perspectives of multiple user constituencies.
Be an advocate for the user, keeping his/her best interests in mind at all times.
Solicit and collate feedback about the product from across the organization, and turn this data into actionable product feature enhancements & projects.
Propose new features and document product requirements. Practice smart documentation: no more nor less than necessary.
Work closely with engineering & design teams to implement features in a rapid, iterative manner.
Work with the head of product management to prioritize both the short-term development queue and long-term product roadmap.
A detail-oriented individual who wants everything to be just right, but can prioritize and identify the 5 most important things from a list of 100.
2-5 years as a product manager working on web-based software.
Knowledge of and/or interest in best practices for web usability & analytics.
Familiarity with issue tracking and/or project management software.
Experience in an agile development environment.
General understanding of web application architecture, client/server interactions, AJAX, etc
