Are you passionate about technology? Virtual Instruments is looking for creative and innovative individuals to join a fast-paced, rapidly expanding Product Management team! You will be part of a team of high performing product managers who will drive product strategy, define detailed product requirements, and execute on go-to-marketing strategies for Virtual Instruments’ award-winning VirtualWisdom platform which provides the only real-time, system-wide, enterprise scale solution for providing visibility into performance, health and utilization metrics, translating into improved performance and availability while lowering the total cost of the infrastructure supporting mission-critical applications.
The Product Manager, Optics will be responsible for partnering with VI’s customers and our Engineering team to define and drive the long term strategic optical roadmap and market strategy for Virtual Instruments. You will:
Prioritize products and features and document them by writing Product Requirements Documents and driving product roadmaps
Collaborate with engineering and marketing teams to understand and establish measurable goals and objectives for our optical suite of products
Lead and actively participate in cross-functional product team meetings, drive product content and schedule decisions to optimize revenue and market impact
Collaborate/coordinate with corporate marketing to define core product messaging and positioning
Represent the Company’s optical interest with external partners and optical standards bodies. Set and prioritize requirements and track progress
Perform market and competitive research by reviewing industry analyst content, developing relationships and supplementing this knowledge with direct customer input
Perform competitive benchmarking
Be an optical champion for Virtual Instruments - act as a spokesperson/evangelist for our optical products - articulate product strategy, competitive positioning and long term product viability to customers, partners, press and analysts
5+ years of technical Product Line Management/Marketing experience with direct experience in the optical market space, fiber optic networking system experience preferred
Strong knowledge of optical fiber telecommunications transmission principles (cabling and connector termination procedures and optical application standards)
Strong technical background in optical communication systems and/or components
Working knowledge of 8G/16G/32G FC and 10G/40G/100G Ethernet and knowledge/understanding of optical patch panel market
An understanding of volume optical manufacturing and test processes is preferred
Knowledge of signal quality (BER/jitter/ISI) as well as optical fiber testing (measure bandwidth, modal dispersion, etc…)
Must have strong presentation and customer/partner facing communication skills
Must be able to assemble key content from multiple sources into a coherent structure, or create net-new content as needed to meet requirements
Must have strong problem solving ability to answer technical questions and resolve issues at the customer site
Must have a history of bringing successful products to market
Experience in writing white papers, training lab guides, and technical reference information is required
A clear and collaborative approach to the relationship between product management and engineering is a must
Quality, out-of-the box thinker who is open-minded, creative, intelligent, and self-confident
Must possess a willingness to do what it takes to add value to the team and VI
This position will be based out of our corporate headquarters location in San Jose, CA
Some travel is required
•BS/MS in Engineering. MBA is preferred
