About the role:

The SEO Manager will be responsible for onsite and offsite optimizations, with a focus on technical optimizations to improve organic search performance for WhaleShark Media’s web properties. In this role, he/she will consult with the product marketing and engineering teams to ensure that SEO best practices are applied and maintained. This position requires a “hands-on” manager with astute attention to process and detail, who also possesses the ability to apply this detailed knowledge to actionable insights and recommendations.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement SEO strategies and tactics in line with our business objectives.
Develop SEO best practice guidelines and other documentation for engineering and product marketing teams and conduct trainings as required.
Audit websites and provide technical recommendations for improving SEO visibility and performance.
Review product requirements and collaborate with product marketing, engineering, merchandising and editorial teams to ensure SEO helps inform site architecture decisions, site re-designs, content creation and implementation of new site features & functionality.
Review weekly builds to ensure new code follows SEO best practices.
Identify and recommend new opportunities for improving organic search rankings, traffic and conversions.
Monitor, analyze and report on SEO performance.
Research and stay-up-to date on new developments, trends and technologies within the SEO space.
Experience
Required Skills, Experience and Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant work experience
3-5 years of hands-on SEO work experience, with a focus on technical optimizations
Web development experience
Experience consulting with site development teams on site architecture and coding to ensure SEO best practices applied
Experience managing on-page optimizations (metadata, keyword usage, internal linking, etc.)
Experience managing offsite initiatives to drive SEO performance improvements (link building, "widgets", social media apps, etc.)
Technical knowledge/experience with the following:
XML sitemaps, Robots.txt, and URL re-directs
Content management systems and knowledge of HTML, HTML5, XHTML, XHTML-MP, XML, JavaScript, FLASH, CSS and W-CSS as they relate to SEO
Common server-side scripting methods such as PHP
Dynamic content-generating scripts and database integration scripts like jQuery, AJAX and JSON
Experience with link building and content creation for the purpose of improving SEO performance
Experience in applying SEO to direct response, brand-building and reputation management initiatives
Extensive experience utilizing leading SEO, web analytics and search research tools and technologies, such as:
SEO tools: SEOmoz, SEOClarity, Bright Edge, Conductor, etc.
Web Analytics: Google Analytics, Omniture, CoreMetrics, etc.
Research Tools: ComScore, Compete, HitBox, AdGooroo, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with cross functional teams as well as individually to drive results
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs particularly Excel
Strong project management skills and attention to detail
Strong analytical skills as well as intellectual curiosity - initiative to dig into the "why" of various results and identify reasons for changes in performance
Ability to prioritize
Education
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant work experience
• 3-5 years of hands-on SEO work experience, with a focus on technical optimizations
