We’re a company called Quirky. What are we Quirky about? We make invention accessible to everyone in the world. We develop two brand new consumer products every week. The ideas for those products come from anyone who has had “wouldn’t it be cool if...” type ideas for decades.
So yeah, two products per week, that’s why we’re writing this job description. We need a brilliant Electrical Engineer to work with our industrial designers and engineers to develop Quirky’s electrical / electronic concepts into finished, working consumer products.

Responsibilities
Acts as a technical liaison between Marketing, Quirky Design Staff, Operations and Quirky Asia, as well as outside vendors to assure the timeliness of deliverables per milestone for all relevant products.
Validate changes, modify hardware and/or software and provides support documentation to the item specification including but not limited to: bill of materials, software flowcharts, coding conventions, schematics, data sheets, data transmission protocols, product costing, etc.
Engineer electronics for relevant Quirky products in accordance to the ETL, FCC, EMC directives and other specifications pertaining to compliance and regulatory needs.
Keeping Quirky Design Staff up-to-date on trends in the industry, prototypes, design and manufacturing related issues.
Maintain all required files, summaries, reports, specifications and other data that relates to Quirky’s electronic/electrical products.
Reports to Quirky’s Head of Engineering and works closely with Quirky’s Head of Design and the rest of the Quirky Design Staff in both NYC and Asia.
Experience
Minimum 7 years experience designing products that feature electronics functionality, consumer product development and offshore manufacturing.
Broad based knowledge in areas of electronic hardware and software design, subcomponent design, electronic component vendor base, simulation and emulation techniques, strategies and platforms, and emerging electronic technologies.
Embedded development – familiarity with multiple 8-bit microcontroller families, programming in C for embedded systems, and a familiarity with different embedded toolchains. Experience with 32-bit architecture and developing bare-metal or embedded Linux applications for ARM a plus.
Physical interaction design / physical computing / tangible or ubiquitous computing experience.
Board-level consumer electronics, computer peripheral, toy or medical electronics design experience. Digital, analog, and mixed signal domains. Experience with manufactured, shipping products.
Experience with app-enabled devices and accessory devices for iPhone or Android platform. Experience with ADK or participation in Made For iPod a plus.
USB device development - familiar with at least one microcontroller USB stack, USB driver development and OS integration (Windows and Mac), USB-IF testing process, USB electrical and protocol requirements. Embedded USB host development and USB-OTG experience a plus.
Wireless - experience designing and developing for wireless communication applications. WiFi / Zigbee / Bluetooth / 6LoWPAN / other 802.15.4 / proprietary short-range (Nordic, TI, or others) / ANT / GSM / CDMA. Part 15 compliance and FCC certification experience. Familiar with RFI measurement and mitigation techniques.
Assembly and rework of prototype electronic assemblies including experience with surface mount soldering and rework tools and techniques.
Test and troubleshooting including experience with basic test equipment: oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, protocol analyzer.
Skills

Education
Bachelor / Master of Science degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical / Electronic or Computer Science.
