What You’ll Be Doing:
As a top-notch ‘Swiss Army knife’ engineer, you’ll be working within the Dev-Ops realm, on projects such as deployment automation, overall system scalability, systems architecture, Solr search index replication, CDN caching, and web services infrastructure. This will be accomplished by utilizing nginx, HAProxy, Capistrano, Chef, Resque & Redis, Memcached, and more. Your work will bring an unprecedented level of automation, performance improvements, and scalability to our growing infrastructure, and will thus play an important role in defining ModCloth’s future.
Responsibilities
Use your frighteningly great talent to develop ModCloth infrastructure using Ruby, Ruby on Rails, MySQL
Be in charge of weekly (or even more frequent) deployments using Capistrano or tools built on top
Use your superhuman smarts to always find the right tool for the job (i.e. Sinatra, Rack, RSPec, Cucumber, Jasmine, Redis, jQuery, Capistrano, Solr, etc.)
Work across multiple teams to identify "cross-cutting" concerns, such as API consistency, failover, redundancy, scaling
Embrace your love of collaboration by pair programming nearly full-time with fellow developers, platform engineers, and operations engineers
Employ test-driven and behavior-driven development
Support continuous integration by ensuring that working branches pass all tests
Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planners, reviews, retrospectives, and the occasional ping-pong game
Experience
Previous experience with a high-traffic Rails application
Einstein knowledge of Capistrano, Chef, HAProxy, nginx, MySQL, and other Unix system goodies
Virtuoso/virtuosa of Ruby language and Rails framework
Expert understanding of SQL and data modeling for scalability and performance
Equally comfortable with Mac OS-X, Linux, and Solaris
Excited about the agile development philosophy, test-driven development, and short iterations
Is a ‘Ruby meta-programming whisper’ a.k.a. knows it like the back of their hand and can articulate where it’s appropriate
A fan of participating in and contributing back to open source
Able to compare various languages and frameworks objectively
Incredible analytical and problem solving skills
A positive and supportive attitude during pairing and other team interactions
Ability to clearly articulate design ideas while being receptive to constructive criticism
Skills
Familiarity with Git version control system
Knowledge of Solr, Redis, other NoSQL storage engines
Experience with Sinatra, Rack, and services layer in Ruby
Previous TDD and Pairing experience
