BiggerPockets.com continues to build our rapidly growing real estate investing social network (95,000+ members, 350,000 unique monthly visitors) and applications platform (SaaS), and is looking for a talented Senior Developer and Architect to lead the next stages of our development.
Our goal is to transform our industry by establishing THE one stop-shop for the real estate investment space that includes social, data, and SaaS to facilitate user networking, education, deal making, and marketing. Think LinkedIn meets Mint for the real estate investment space.
We're looking for someone who is not only brilliant and creative, but who is motivated to help drive the growth of what is quickly becoming the de-facto online destination for the industry. Your duties will be to develop, design, test and deploy new features for the website (both front and back end)
You will need to be well versed in the technologies that comprise the environment hosting the app (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Memcached, Phusion Passenger / mod_rails).
Familiarity with Capistrano, Git, GitHub, SVN, NewRelic
You will need to be able to work on any side of the application, including UI
Full oversight over the BiggerPockets application
4+ years Ruby on Rails development experience and the ability to quickly jump into a project and begin executing.
Experience using Rails, Capistrano, writing tests and generally maintaining testing and production environments
Experience in handling performance & scalability
Portfolio demonstrating understanding of best practices (code sample or link to GitHub repository)
Experience with scripting
Agile, test-driven development experience (unit, functional, integration, and other forms of automated testing)
Understanding of web based protocols such as HTTP, SSL, SSH, SFTP
Knowledge of APIs - both implementation and creation
Ability to own projects end-to-end as demonstrated by significant open-source contributions, independent projects, team leadership, or startups
Detailed knowledge of performance and scalability, including front-end web browser performance analysis
CS/Engineering degree, Computer Science degree or demonstrated equivalent experience.
