They will be heavily involved in technology strategy and system architecture and will be responsible for the implementation.
The engineering environment at thredUP is fast paced and very agile. We use a modified scrum framework for our project management on a 2-week sprint cycle. We are looking for a hard-working, energetic developer that can handle some of the chaos that comes with the speed we move. We need a quick decision maker that can see more than just the roots of the trees.
We are looking for someone with a great work ethic and strong self-management skills. They must be a strong communicator and be comfortable with uncertainty and a little chaos. Experience in a fast paced team development environment is a must.
The job is hard and you must be comfortable with the uncertainty of a small agile team. Bugs and problems rarely come one at a time. They usually come all at once right at the most busy times. You should not be worried or panicked under pressure and in fact thrive.
We do like to have fun too! We regularly have happy hour events and are strong believers in "beer o'clock" near the end of the workday. Hump-day got you down? We have work from home Wednesdays! We also host coffee & espresso machines (with all the fixings too!) as well as a fridge completely dedicated to soda and beer.
Work directly with the CTO on implementation strategy for new features and refinements for the service.
Work with front-end team members to help plan out required hooks, work around design constraints and consider system/technology limitations.
Contribute to core product strategy discussions and bring new and well thought out ideas to the table.
Develop the system back-end, with a test-driven development approach, keeping scalability and efficiency top of mind.
Help with front-end integration when needed.
Help with technical side of customer service when needed.
Contribute heavily to the feedback loop on the development process in order improve team productivity.
Have very strong ruby skills. No exception.
Think quantitatively and approach your work systematically.
Insist on better than 100% test coverage.
Strive for perfection but be comfortable with compromise in the name of speed.
Be passionate about working at a startup. We're building something great, and you will be a key piece of the equation.
Deeply believe that thredUP is capable of changing an industry. We do.
