Senior UI Designer

at Wikia in San Francisco, CA   —   Jul 23, 2014   |
Wikia is the top 75 website that you haven’t heard of because you haven’t been here using your talents to make it front-page news. We have 40 million users per month right now with our present UI – what’s going to happen when you bring your vision to it? We are well-primed and already successful with a UI that is ready to be sent flying over the top by your talent, your experience, and the passion that you’ve been saving for the right opportunity. This is that opportunity.

Wikia is changing fast and we’re looking for a lead interaction designer to help us shape the future of our platform. You’ll have a blast creating fun and engaging user experiences, as well as have plenty of ideas about how to deliver these experiences based on your strong skills in both interaction design and visual design. Along the way, your enthusiasm will help drive and inspire the team.

Are you this designer?
Responsible for evolving the visual and interaction aspects of the product platform.
Take projects through all stages of the design process, from initial concepts and sketches, through user flows and wireframes, and finally into polished visual designs.
Take responsibility for defining the product Style Guide.
Help define and contribute to the roadmap and areas that need work.
Present multiple concepts to senior management for feedback.
Produce clear and detailed documentation to communicate your concepts, flows and interactions.
Deliver final artwork (such as finished web page designs and icons).
Develop a deep understanding of what motivates our users and how they interact with wikis, and use this knowledge to constantly improve our platform. Our goal is to provide a great environment in which our users can collaborate around the things they love.
We’re looking for someone who can design products and features that look great and are a pleasure to use. You should have a strong portfolio of visual and interaction design skills for the web. While no HTML or CSS production is required for this position, an understanding of front-end development for the web is a necessity.
We’re looking for a person who:
Is passionate about user-centered design.
Can champion their ideas through all stages of the product cycle.
Is highly motivated – a self-starter who will flourish in a start-up environment.
Has 5+ years of experience designing web or desktop applications.
It’s a bonus if you have designed for online communities.
Has an understanding of CSS, JavaScript and AJAX.
