Software Development Associate (Part Time)

Overview
EdLab is a research, design and development unit at Gottesman Libraries of Teachers College, Columbia University. We are seeking software development associates to lead projects in several domains of educational technology (adaptive instructional tools, online interactive applications, games, intelligent tutoring systems, mobile learning applications). This is a great opportunity to learn and work with cutting edge technologies while making a meaningful impact on the future of education.
Responsibilities
Job Description:
Collaborate with other teams in the EdLab in the development of new
projects.
Take ideas through all phases of the development lifecycle: definition and functional design, architecture, technical specifications, implementation, quality control and rollout.
Maintain and improve upon existing systems.
Write technical specifications and documentation.
Participate in collaborative design activities with EdLab team.
Help support the TC Library digital services infrastructure.
Experience
Experience with at least TWO of the following:
Object oriented programming (Java, C++, etc.)
Scripting Languages (PHP, PYTHON, etc.)
User interface design and development (using Javascript/JQuery, Flash, HTML, etc.)
Database systems (SQL, PL/SQL, etc.)
Mobile Applications development
Skills
Strong computer science or engineering background, with demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas:
Large scale software systems development
Machine learning and artificial intelligence
Natural language processing
Data mining and retrieval
Game development
Applicants must demonstrate experience and aptitude in working in a
team-oriented environment: communication, self-motivation, energy, and focus on success are all ingredients to success at the Edlab. Software Development Associates are responsible for meeting goals for critical projects while also participating in lab-wide activities. In addition to a strong technical background, all applicants should be able to articulate an interest in education and how they see technology shaping this sector.
