Software Engineer - Core Hadoop Platform

Topsy is looking for experienced Software Engineers to help us architect and build out the highest performing, most scalable social media analytics platform in the market.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience building real-time production systems to consume and query Big Data, practical experience in the NoSql space, and experience building and using large (petabyte large) Map Reduce environments to regularly gain new insights into historical data.
Design, implement, and evolve Topsy’s analytics platform
Rapid design, prototyping and implementation of analytics solutions
Collaborate with other engineers and with operations to deliver scalable, robust, and high-performance systems
Solve hard problems
5+ years experience writing in Python, Java, or C++ and willingness to adapt to new languages
5+ years experience with object-oriented development
Practical experience with database design and its limitations; SQL-based or n-SQL based
Ability to work alone and in small teams to deliver critical infrastructure
Aversion to technical debt
Practical experience with distributed computing and clustering architectures
Deep understanding of MySQL, Hadoop, Memcache, MongoDB, or MapReduce
Practical experience with development on Unix
Broad and deep knowledge of Perl or Python and commonly used modules
