Overview
Pipio is a web software start up in it's pre-launch stage. We're looking for a experienced software engineer to join the team who is excited to work in a start up environment. The candidate should have 1-2 years of professional working experience building backend software for a highly scalable website with large volumes of traffic and rapid growth. The candidate should be self-sufficient and able to learn new technologies as needed. They will be responsible for working very closely with other team members to implement key components of the site.
Working at Pipio will have all the benefits of a larger company such as full health and dental, but the candidates will also have equity in the company. The work environment is very relaxed and hours are flexible, but we do work very hard and we're looking for a candidate who is willing to work hard to be a part of launching something with excellent potential. The candidate will become a part of the core engineering team at Pipio.
Candidates should also be willing to work in downtown San Francisco as we are planning to move our office there in the fall.

Responsibilities
Responsible for:
Building web services in PHP and Python to deliver data efficiently.
Creating frontend code in JS to handle the data.
Creating the functionality of an intuitive UI for the manipulation of data and to handle live data streams from the backend.
Optimizing each stage of the site to efficiently use caching and bandwidth to deliver highest throughput.
Experience
1-2 years of professional working experience in a similar environment where you have worked on projects from the lowest database layers all the way up to the javascript in the web UI.
New college graduates with experience and interest in developing cutting edge web software are welcome to apply.
Skills
Expert knowledge of Linux
Expert knowledge of PHP or Python
Expert knowledge of Javascript, especially large OO web applications.
Expert knowledge of PROPER web layout with CSS 2+ (we don't deal with IE6).
Familiar with javascript libraries such as Mootools.
Familiar with XMPP protocol and eJabberd.
Knowledge of Erlang (especially if you've worked with eJabberd extensions) is a big plus!
Experience with Photoshop is also a plus!
Education
BA in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
