Overview
The Wikipedia Mobile Web team is looking for Javascript and PHP engineers who are excited by the challenge of making the most performant, secure, and scalable mobile site in the world. We are passionate about building tools to help make a world in which all people have access to read and contribute to the sum of all human knowledge. We are focussing on building features to make it possible to contribute text, media, and metadata to our projects for mobile devices - as lightly and efficiently as possible. You will join an established agile team, bridging our front and backend engineers.
Responsibilities
Continuously evolve Wikipedia through the mobile experience
Write software in multiple languages (primarily Javascript and PHP)
Work closely with our front and backend engineers
Skills
Continuously evolve our API
Skilled and obsessive about Javascript and PHP performance
An understanding of the web stack in and out (HTTP, HTML, JS, CSS, etc)
Excited about working with a self-directed, cross-functional team
Wondering why you can’t contribute to Wikipedia using your phone
Experience writing high performance Javascript applications in Node.js is preferred
Demonstrated contributions to open-source software is preferred
Education
BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
