Sr Software Engineer - WILL RELOCATE

at Monetate in Conshohocken, PA   —   Jun 27, 2014   |
Are you interested in working for one of the fastest growing startups in the Philadelphia area? Monetate is rapidly growing our technical team to support our growing list of clients. We are looking for problem-solvers who want to have a hand in building solutions to new problems.

At Monetate you will have the ability to write code that runs in front of millions of users on leading internet retail sites every day. You will not only get immediate feedback from our clients but you will be able to produce experiments for them in hours or days instead of the weeks and months they are used to. You’ll help us collect information on millions of site visitors and act on them in real-time.

At Monetate, we use Javascript, Python, relational databases, and cloud technologies to provide testing, targeting and personalization platform for online retailers.

As part of the Monetate team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with customers and see your work used on sites with millions of page views. Thanks to our testing framework, you’ll also get to measure your work in real-world results (many millions of dollars in incremental revenue) for our customers.

The most important thing we are looking for is your ability to solve problems. We are looking for engineers with a deep understanding of data structures and algorithms to tackle tough new challenges. We do leading-edge work with Javascript, so experience with that language is important – especially experience dealing with cross-browser issues and with raw javascript (not just libraries). Attention to detail and quality, solid communication skills, and the ability to work well on a close-knit, agile team are all critical.

Monetate is a great place to work! We’re small and growing quickly – you will have the opportunity to grow with us and make a difference in what we become. We set our own hours, have a great vacation program, pay for health insurance, provide lunch in the office every day, and have a fantastic time working together!
A Monetate product engineer will help create the next version of our experiment engine that makes real-time decisions on millions of HTTP requests per day and help build the next generation of our client-facing application that lets marketers regain control of their website. We have an agile team and ship software to our clients every 2 weeks. You get immediate feedback on your work and know from our clients (and our testing engine) the impact of your work.
We’re looking for talented engineers who are interested in working on hard problems. You don’t have to have deep experience with our stack in particular, but you have to have deep experience in your domain. You should be a domain expert on whatever it is you’re working on now, and motivated to become one in our space. You should have a deep understanding of data structures and algorithms and the capability to apply them to new problems. You should be hungry to work on new problems in a startup environment.
Things we like to talk about include:
Experience developing large scale HTTP-based applications
Working with big data problems
Scaling MySQL
Building scalable applications in the cloud
Writing lightweight and high-performance Javascript
A strong applicant will have:
Proven success developing production software
Deep experience in multiple programming languages and an interest in functional programming
Experience with web applications
Experience working with relational data (we use MySQL)
A passion for correctness and quality
Ability to work with a project from requirements through development, testing and delivery
