Sr. Solutions Engineer

The Sr. Solution Engineer will support the expansion of the Aspera Professional Services organization. The ideal candidate will have provided hands-on technology solution consulting services to Fortune 500 companies and possess a broad and deep understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and security. She or he will have excellent system design and scripting skills along with the ability to manage complete customized development and implementations. Great communications, presentation and demonstration skills are essential for pre-sales and post-sales activities. These include customer presentations and technical demonstrations, understanding customer requirements, collaboratively working out the design, setting and managing customer expectations, while upholding Aspera’s high standards for maintaining outstanding customer relationships.
Pre-Sales Support
The Sr. Solution Engineer will support marketing and sales activities through webinars, presentations and demonstrations of Aspera’s workflow and transfer products. Excellent writing skills are essential for winning proposal and statement of work creation.
Professional Services/Solution Development
The engineer will lead one or more simultaneous projects, both on-site at clients and off-site; leveraging Aspera optimized bulk data transfer products, our automation platform and tools, and third party products as required. Responsibilities include full lifecycle project management, overall solution architecture and implementation:
Explore and assess customer requirements for completeness and accuracy and determine if requirements are met by the current out-of-the-box functionality. Work with requirement providers to close issues and gaps and design/implement custom solutions when needed.
Perform impact assessment and scope the size of the effort based on the requirements.
Coordinate all aspects of the project with other teams, such as Sales Engineering, Quality Assurance, Support, and Engineering as well as business owners and management.
Develop full project plans to implement the solution, including identifying resource requirements.
Architect the solution and ensure that it best leverages Aspera feature sets and fits into the overall Client architecture.
Play an active, leading role in providing product feature/functionality feedback to Engineering. Identify, and recommend architecture and feature improvements.
Resolve difficult design and build issues, troubleshoot bugs.
Pre-build replica versions of the customer solutions, including the OS, network and firewall configurations. Test for defects and load/performance.
Derive and implement test cases.
Work closely with the Quality Assurance team for guidance on released product versions and to provide feedback on perceived defects.

Minimum of 5 years of application development experience
Minimum of 3 years of consulting client-facing experience, preferably with an organization serving Fortune 500 companies
Experience in the Media and Entertainment industry a plus
Has provided technical leadership (Architecture, Design, Development oversight) and team leadership (planning, collaboration, conflict resolution, driving results) on both small (12 man-month) and large (>30 man-year) sized technology projects
Broad expertise spanning the entire IT stack from platforms and OS, database, networking, Internet security and various enterprise systems
Hands-on development expertise with Object Oriented Technologies
Hands on development experience with XML technologies and systems integration.
Hands on development experience with rich user interface technologies, preferably AJAX
Ability and willingness to travel to client engagements, domestically and internationally
A hands on approach, and a "learn anything" attitude
NIX system administration
TCP/IP/UDP networking
LAMP software stack
Microsoft Windows AD and non-AD
VMware (Workstation / ESXi)
Security best practices
Shell, Perl, Ruby Scripting
Apache / IIS / Mongrel / Nginx

BS in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent)
