Supplier Quality Engineer

at Pliant Technology in Milpitas, CA   —   Mar 29, 2014   |  
This position develops and maintains the Operations delivery system and initiatives partnering with internal and external customers to ensure Product Quality, Reliability, Cost and Delivery metrics. In this role, the SBE will work directly with Contract Manufacturing and OEMs to manage and scale operations to meet Pliant business objectives.
Responsible for product yields. This includes working with internal and external teams on data collection, Pareto charting, root cause analysis, corrective/preventative action, validation, and reporting. This is to be done at the board and drive level.
Supply base documentation - This includes the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all drawing and specs provided to our supply base. Ensure supplier compliance.
Assure that our CM is prepared at incoming inspection to ensure component quality.
Communicate and validate ECO changes throughout the supply chain. Execute new process qualification and FAI's.
Run an internal and external Defect Reduction Team weekly to review all process, and/or technical issues. Inputs to DRT should include line yield information, RMA/FA information, OSV feedback from the hubs, ORT, and PCBA temperature cycle tests.
Responsible for creating validating and closing supplier 80's with our customers.
Drive and track Manufacturing Quality Metrics and Product-specific issues (yields, MRB, component failures) with Contract Manufacturing and Component Suppliers.
Supplier Qualification
Execute supplier and site surveys.
Work closely with sales and marketing in conducting customer audits and surveys. Follow
up on corrective action implementation and reporting.
Qualify CM lines moves, building moves, location moves. Work with CM on first article
Process Engineering
Identify, create and implement plans to improve cycle times, reduce handling, reduce inventory, and cut costs.
Create, review, and ECO control internal processes and workflows.
Create, review, and ECO control workflows, work instructions, and Pliant specific process atour CM's. This includes training documents and test processes. Control distribution of
Pliant owned documentation including specs, schematics, and drawings. Audit regularly.
Ensure ECO's are communicated to our CM's, and that they are documented
Experience with production operations demonstrating good overall knowledge of manufacturing processes and yield management.
Ability to develop solutions to complex problems which require collaboration with many groups.
Self starter, self motivated: Ability to thrive in a fast paced start-up environment.
Results oriented and metric focused.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to thrive in a cross-functional environment and work well with a variety of people from different functions and organizations.
Strong leadership skills.
Demonstrated achievements in excellent project management.
Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in Manufacturing, New Product Introduction and Supply Chain environments.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Research or Technical related fields. Masters degree preferred.
