Continuously improve performance and reliability of our EC2-based hosting platform
Administer all servers, including creation of automated shell scripts for routine tasks
Manage EC2 machine images for all tiers of infrastructure, including upgrades and patches
Build tools and processes to aid in deployment of code and configuration to production systems
Perform routine database administration (backups, archives, storage optimization)
Create monitoring and escalation infrastructure to support full application stack
Participate in budgeting and capacity planning related to production operations
Lead instrumentation of applications for performance measurement and diagnostics
Work with engineering team to re-architect systems for scalability as required
Develop security policies including server hardening, access control, vulnerability testing
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience required
Experience in a 24x7 hosting environment
5+ years experience in Unix or Linux systems administration or software engineering
Extensive knowledge and experience in supporting and troubleshooting Unix or Linux networking services and protocols: TCP/IP, NIS, DNS, NFS, SSH, SMTP, SNMP, SSL, and HTTP
Strong shell scripting and automation skills
Python programming experience a huge plus
Deep experience with Amazon Web Services platform (EC2, S3, etc)
Database administration experience strongly preferred (PostgreSQL a plus!)
Experience with monitoring tools (eg, Nagios/Ganglia)
Experience with automated systems configuration management tools (i.e., cfengine, puppet)
Linux or Unix Systems Engineering
