The startup's initial efforts and offerings are different from what’s offered by current music/media startups - in short, there isn’t an entity that’s doing anything as ambitious or as rewarding for fans of music. Further, when compared to the services for music that are currently available in the marketplace – whether offered through startups or “big media” companies – the value proposition our startup brings to music creators, as well as to music labels, is priceless.
The startup’s first launch isn’t a “disruption” of the space it is entering inasmuch as it is both a thoroughly modern (and prescient) reconceptualization of the medium and an invaluable utility nonpareil for creators of music and music labels. In light of the recent changes in the music landscape, we think that the startup's audacious first offering can become an essential favorite for both casual fans and music enthusiasts. In addition, the startup’s next two launches afterwards are at least as innovative in their respective spaces.
Several months ago, I (startup's co-founder) commenced discussions with a leading technology and media company about funding and/or a possible venture partnership(s) – this was before I decided to seek the formation of a startup for building and launching the initial endeavors.
Unfortunately, these talks centered on at least 2 of the efforts being both developed and maintained by the digital department of one of the corporation's subsidiaries. As I explained at the time, the endeavors would, by far, offer the greatest rewards – to each party involved – if launched by an independent startup, rather than by a major music label or a "big media" company. (It’s not necessary to mention that neither the major music labels nor the RIAA are very popular among some tech-savvy music fans, for example.)
We agreed to talk again once a startup was formed and ready for launch of the 1st product.
About the Position:
The startup seeks to transform music through innovations - both independently (by the startup) and through strategic partnerships. Towards this, the startup's CTO will partner in the startup's vision, help shape the trajectory of the company's efforts, as well as lead the startup's recruitment of an experienced and innovative technology team.
In addition, the startup will devote some of its resources towards developing new technologies and innovations, and the CTO will be instrumental in leading these efforts, also.
The startup is laidback, focused and eager to build its presence quickly. In addition to founder's equity, salary and perks, the position offers a smart technologist an extraordinary opportunity to make a favorable impact on music, as well as pop culture, in a relatively short period of time.
Recruits and leads experienced technology team to implement the vision of the founders, ensuring that specific deadline (and budget) requirements are met.
Develops and manages a several-year technology roadmap for the startup.
Manages, evaluates and assists in the development and implementation of technical processes, disciplines and policies in support of the startup's product and business strategies.
Evaluates and implements appropriate technology platforms (including web application frameworks) for delivering the startup's services, and leads the development and implementation of architectural solutions that are secure, highly scalable and maintainable.
Responsible for identifying trends in technology and helping identify innovation opportunities for the startup; participates in business planning and communicates technical knowledge and the vision of both current and future technology related to the startup's competitive position(s).
Stays up-to-date with technology standards, technology best practices and industry trends, and ensures that technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organization.
Experience in recruiting, developing and inspiring technology teams and in creating an environment where the best talents wants to be a part of the team
Experience managing web application development
Also, startup experience or experience in an early-stage environment is a plus
Ability to learn new technologies, tools and platforms as necessary
High-level of knowledge of and experience with programming languages and technologies for web (and mobile) application development; cloud computing expertise is a plus
Ability to lead a technology team and recruit talent
Excellent communication skills

BS/MS in Computer Science/similar discipline or experience to replace a degree
