The Technical Designer is primarily responsible for translating design concept layouts into pre-press production ready, digital mechanical art for multiple clients and brands. The Technical Designer must have an extensive understanding of 3-dimensional packaging, print collateral, corporate identity and style guide production with design sensitivity, strong typographic skills, and an eye for detail and accuracy. The Technical Designer works closely with the Technical Design Director, and the Design and Account Teams.
Other necessary skills include:
Knowledge of offset lithography, flexography, dry offset and rotogravure printing processes and the production requirements of artwork for each printing method
Using 4-color process and PMS spot colors.
Accuracy in following print specifications
Ability to organize and manage multiple projects
Maintain project related digital archives is required.
Assist in extending design concepts from the Principal Display Panel to all panels of a package, including back panels, also the adaptation of designs across various packaging sizes and form factors.
Support the Design Team with technical problem solving in the development of design elements and layouts.
Build high quality digital mechanical files, following existing brand standards and internal workflow protocol.
Having a understanding of FDA legal requirements for food packaging and other consumer packaged goods is required.

Qualifications / Requirements:
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator CS5 and InDesign.
Some Photoshop and Keynote preferred.
Thorough understanding of offset lithography, flexography, dry offset and rotogravure printing processes and related production art requirements.
Proficient in digital file management and server navigation.
BFA degree in graphic design, or equivalent.
5 + years minimum packaging production art experience – special emphasis on food packaging and private label is a plus.
