Technical Program Manager

Overview
Aspera, a fast-growing and profitable start-up in the San Francisco Bay Area creating leading edge data transport software, is seeking a highly talented and experienced Technical Program Manager (TPM). This position will be an individual-contributor role within Engineering with tremendous influence on the future of Aspera’s product line. This person will primarily be responsible for managing customer requirements that come through Sales Engineering and Technical Support and planning and driving projects from inception to completion.
Responsibilities
Be an advocate for the customer
Proactively gather requirements and use cases (input from Customers, Sales Engineers, Technical Support, Sales, Product Management, and industry trends) through customer interviews and other methods
Assess and understand customer requirements to determine if our Aspera software meets their needs, if not, to develop into use cases and feature requirements for Aspera software that address the customer needs
Develop product and feature requirements from the customer requirements and be able to present to the team
Assess and validate the technical design against the product requirements
Manage requests from customers coming through Technical Support and Sales Engineering
Develop and implement best practices and processes
Coordinate all aspects of the project with Engineering, QA, Release, Sales, Sales Engineers, Technical Support, and Product Management.
Develop and manage project plans
Play an active role in shaping and enhancing Aspera’s core product line.
Resolve customer issues through the development of new feature requirements, bug fixes, escalation, and hands-on debugging
Manage weekly meetings to track status of customer requirements and issues.
Interface between Sales Engineering/Support and Engineering (Development, QA, Release)
Help manage communication with customers including informing customers of new releases and features and bug fixes that address their needs
Experience
BS in Computer Science/Engineering or related technical discipline
Previous experience as a software engineer preferred
Three to five years experience in a technical project/program/product management role
Hands on experience with web applications, file-transfer technologies, backend systems
Experience with networking protocols, file transfer technologies, systems administration, business infrastructure and operations, back-end systems, enterprise software
Experience shipping software
Experience interacting with external customers and partners
Strong communication skills (written, verbal, etc.) and ability to motivate a team
Skills
Strong grasp of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Strong technical background and process implementation skills
Strong leadership skills
Good organization, presentation, and customer service skills
Proven track-record of balancing multiple projects at once and delivery projects successfully and on time
Understands the broad stakeholder perspectives of engineering, system administration, networking, non-technical, and management level
Enjoys being on the leading edge of technology
