User Interface Designer (looking for a challenge)

at Sparkler.TV in Silicon Valley, California   —   Jul 14, 2014   |
Overview
We are looking for a software-savvy visual artist to design and help develop our user interface for the television of the future. If you ever wanted to have a global impact, this might be a good fit. For the time being, this is for sweat (but significant) equity (fund raising as we write). Below are the details of what we are looking for, but attitude is as important as any specific experience -- flexibility and adaptability are important when the team is small.
Responsibilities
Design cutting edge, visually unique and compelling interactions.
Design user interfaces (UI) that are self-educating and require no user manual.
Work with developers to ensure artwork is preserved and functionality works as intended.
Constantly reassess the UI for usability, functionality, and ease of learning.
Produce and maintain product art such as feature graphics, header artwork, etc.
Keep up on Web and design trends to track where technology and cutting-edge UI is moving.
Other related design duties as assigned.
Experience
Able to do (or willing to learn) to do some scripting/coding, e.g., DHTML, XML, JavaScript or Actionscript.
Game design experience a plus.
Knowledge or experience in digital TV or online video production or distribution.
Experience using prototyping tools such as Adobe Flash.
Experience working with any of the following: Adobe After Effects, video editing and compression software, and 3D software.
Skills
Imagination, creativity, sense of humor.
Able to be self-supporting for 6 months (we are pre-funding).
Autonomous, proactive, highly motivated and organized.
Ability to work to deadline and meet timeline goals.
Not be bound by convention, but be thrilled when your design is immediately and intuitively understood by consumers.
Able to communicate to others the logic or aim of your style, and layout, AND
Willing to adjust designs per the opinions of others (i.e., believe in yourself but don’t be a prima donna).
Compensation
For now, (significant) equity only -- hope to be funded soon, but candidates should be prepared to be self-sustaining for the next 6 months.
