VP of Engineering/ Java Developer

Overview
We have an opportunity for a VP of Engineering/ Full-time Java Developer who will be a major factor to the company’s success. The basics of the platform are built out but someone is needed to help with expansion and building additional features. This is a ground floor opportunity.
Responsibilities
Develop / enhance functionality on the web site
Work independently or on a small team to complete development tasks.
Estimate timelines for development tasks.
Participate in the design and planning of new site features with upper management
Provide documentation for project planning and deliverables
Experience
5+ years of Java / J2EE web application development
Strong understanding of Java 6, Servlets, JSP, JDBC, and SQL
Previously worked in a start up environment
Skills
Understanding and experience with common design patterns, such as MVC
Familiar with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks like jQuery
Familiarity with Spring Framework, Log4J, Ant, JSTL
Understanding of a Java application servers like Tomcat and Jetty
Ability to design and implement scalable and maintainable software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Working knowledge of Linux
Experience with JPA, OpenJPA, or Hibernate
Experience with PostgresSQL database
Experience with Web Services/REST and JSON
Experience with Amazon EC2
Experience in using graphic design tools used for web development
Familiarity with object/data caching frameworks
Compensation
