Birchbox is seeking a Senior User Experience Designer to join our Technology team. As the Senior User Experience Designer, you’ll be responsible for taking complex problems and crafting them into simple and engaging customer experiences. You’ll work closely with the Product, Engineering, and Creative teams on a day-to-day basis, and interact with all business units throughout the course of a project.
The ideal candidate is an extraordinary product design talent who connects the dots between business needs, innovation and good design, and is not afraid to roll up their sleeves. You notice every detail, obsess over thoughtful, simple-to-use, beautiful design, and understand that user experience encapsulates the total product ecosystem, going beyond the interface to include information architecture, interaction design, content, and visual design. This position reports to the Director of Product Management.
Exceptional Candidates Will Have
•Mobile design experience
•Testing methodology experience (A/B, multivariate, etc.)
•Startup and/or ecommerce experience
•A spirit animal; bonus points if it’s a panda, polar bear, or bottlenose dolphin - we don’t have any of those
Develop broad concepts into simple, elegant products and features
Become one with our customers; deeply understand how they think, feel, and act by conducting original research, and transform this data into insights that inform design decisions
Validate hypotheses through touchable, testable prototypes and usability testing
Help establish and reinforce a consistent, intuitive experience using tools and processes like site maps, user flows, wireframes, navigation design, competitive analysis, content inventories, and information organization models
Partner with product managers, engineers, and the creative director to oversee the user experience and contribute to high-level strategic product decisions
Communicate, document, and represent design solutions to team members and key stakeholders for buy-in and implementation
Help build out our digital experience language, creating new, reusable interface elements and refining existing ones
Degree in Design-related ﬁeld (MA in Interaction Design or HCI preferred)
5+ years of experience designing functional, engaging and beautiful large-scale consumer web applications and sites
A Human-Centered Design approach with user research experience, excellent interaction and structural design ability, and proven methodologies for identifying and solving problems
An ability to collect, analyze and transform user data into insights and actionable design ideas
Superb time management and organizational skills
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to clearly articulate your design decisions
Passion for working in a fast-paced, iterative, agile environment
