We're looking for great people to join our small team. The ideal candidate loves games and technology, is willing to challenge conventional wisdom, isn't afraid to try new things, and loves to create high quality, engaging environments for the users.

We are located in San Mateo, CA. You must be a local candidate or be willing to relocate.

Requirements:
* Excellent work ethic and attention to detail. Very organized.
* Scary fast learner.
* Of the 100 things remaining to make a program correct, knows which 10 are the most useful.
* Significant experience developing database-backed websites and web services using modern web standards.
* Experience with a web MVC framework (We use Kohana PHP).
* A strong portfolio of past work.
* Proficient in PHP ... or Python/Ruby/Whatever and can demonstrate your capacity to be multilingual.
* Proficient in MySQL ... or PostgreSQL/Other RDBMS/NOSQL (but you're not too good for MySQL).
* Flexibility > zealotry.

Nice-to-Have's:
* Startup experience.
* XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX expertise.
* Proficient in jQuery.

Bonus Design Challenge:

Overview:
PlayHaven grew out of a product called MyGameMug. At MGM, our goal was to give gamers a personality test (similar to the Myers-Briggs) and based on their results, feed them recommendations of other users with similar "gaming personalities." From a high level, describe your solution to this problem.

Details / Requirements:
* A user's personality is represented by a tuple across n (currently 11) dimensions. Each tuple member is a decimal from 0 to 1. (e.g. {"altruistic","competitive","skilled",...} -> {0.43,0.76,0.33,...}).
* Scalable up to 100s of millions of users.
* Should be able to report "why" the found individual is a good match.
* Once results become available to the user, retrieving them should take < 1s.
* How complex is it to add a new user's personality? How complex is it to query for a user's matches?

Deliverables:
Do not build this, please. Instead, explain how you would design it. What computers are involved? What processes are involved? What communication is involved? What sharing of data is going on and how can it be accomplished? Give us your solution in whatever format you think makes the most sense (text files/graphics/pseudo-code/whatever). If there are holes in the requirements, show us you can make reasonable assumptions, and explain yourself. There is no single "right" answer, but there are some wrong ones :)
