We are looking for a Ruby on Rails Architect to work on a new startup project in a CTO/Architect-like role, taking it from paper-idea into a real product. It is a salaried position, and you will also enjoy the upside of equity compensation. You’ll be working with the latest and greatest technologies, building new products from beginning to end, and learning many different aspects of the business.
You need to have several years of Ruby on Rails and general web software development experience. In addition to your development skills, you’ll have to be comfortable working in an entrepreneurial and innovation-oriented environment, which means being able to self-direct, take initiative and manage your own project and schedule.
It’s our belief that we live in the age of great user experience. Although this is a development position, you either have to be good at the UX, or be capable of learning how to build technology products that delight users.

Startup Leader in Seattle

Conceivian builds startups. As such, we are looking for a generalists who are at the intersection of product, business and leadership. This is a unique role for a unique person. The Startup Leader has the CEO-like role on our startups (minus the annoying part).

We have an exciting startup at our hands that needs a leader. Not a manager, but a leader who’ll not only be the holder of the vision, but also the chief of the execution. You’ll manage the startup, including P&L, strategy, marketing, project management, but, more important of them all is the ability to create a brain-dead simple and elegant product and drive the execution until we ship it.

This particular startup, your first one at Conceivian, is at the intersection of small businesses and consumers, thus you’ll need great skills to balance the startup, the small businesses and the consumers need. You’ll need to be able to beautifully execute on the value proposition and create a new market, while leading a cross-discipline team.

Conceivian is a fast-paced startup environment, where it’s required of all of us to learn and adapt fast. The job description you apply for might not be the job you’ll be doing 12 months from now and you need to be OK with that. Safe, structured and stable are not words we use to describe what we do. We strongly encourage divergent opinions and diversity of thoughts, but we don’t spend too much time talking, we mostly get things done.

Sr. RoR Developer in Seattle

Conceivian is looking for a Sr. Developer to join our team full time. We have a very exciting startup concept at our hands and we are looking for a self-driven developer that can deliver twice as much product in half the time. However, this is just one of the many startups you’ll build during your career at Conceivian. You’ll work with other senior developers, architects, designers and managers in a very fast paced environment.

You need to have many years of Ruby on Rails experience, and at least 5 years of web software development shipping products. In addition to your development skills, you’ll have to be comfortable working on an entrepreneurial (read “controlled-chaos”) and innovation-oriented (read “be ready to throw some of our assumptions and prejudices out of the window”).

Because we are a startup team, we prefer full-stack developers and generalists. People who can define the work, do the work and validate the work. The more skills outside of development you bring to the table the better, particularly good user experience and customer-focused development.

Some of the skills you need (the more the better):

Ruby, Rails (v3), git, RSpec, EventMachine
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, HAML/SASS
PostreSQL, MongoDB, CouchDB, MySQL
UX, SEO, SMO, Web Standards

Experience shipping products (large and small)
Contribution to open source projects.

Sr. Experience Designer in Seattle

Conceivian has enough startups being built simultaneously that we need a full-time Web and Mobile Experience Designer working with us. We are looking for a person who has mad design skills, but at the same time understands the trade-offs necessary to ship products. We are not looking for a person to just make pixels beautiful. We want someone who is capable of working at the concept stages of a product and provide insightful design and user experience directions.

Design and user experience at Conceivian are a top-level value on what we create. You’ll be treated like a partner, not as “the design gal/guy” and you’ll be compensated as such. In exchange we expect you to be a world-class designer.

We expect you to be very well versed in the tools of the trade and in the Web medium. You have great aesthetic sensibility and user empathy. Your value aesthetics just as much as function.

This is startup-land and you should only apply if you like the fast-paced, iterative, collaborative, and dynamic nature of this work environment. We move very fast and focus our energy into shipping great products, instead of meetings and endless discussions about the best shade of blue for a button.

The skills you should have include (the more the better):

Excellent visual and creative skills
Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, and/or Flash.
Information Architecture & User Experience Design
Identity and Branding
Experience designing web products
Understanding of capabilities (and limitations) of HTML, CSS & Javascript.
Extra points for experience with copywriting, managing other designers, video/audio production, and mobile app design.
