Elevated Systems (elevated-systems.com) is a software consulting
company for the green-tech industry. We have been around for just over
a year and work on projects which help people manage their gobs and
gobs of green energy data. We are located in Mountain View, CA or
wherever there is an internet connection and good coffee.

Technically, we try to simplify the problems our clients bring to us
with languages like Python and as many FOSS frameworks, utilities,
solutions as possible. So far, our projects have been focused on
acquiring, managing, moving, sorting, storing, displaying, and
analyzing large amounts of data. But the details can shift from
project to project. This means we use tools such as: Linux, Python,
C/C++, Django framework, Twisted framework, jQuery library. It would
be oh so great if you already used most/all of these tools too!

We work as a consulting company in order to find the most interesting
and challenging parts of the green-tech industry, from a software
perspective. We want to find these challenges, develop new (or even
just better) solutions and slowly move from consulting services into
building scalable data management products for one or more areas of
the green tech industry which need to manage lots of data (solar
energy production, wind energy production, smart grid monitoring,
etc.)

YOU:
Are either still in college or are young enough to always be willing
to learn something new.

You should look at the list of tools we use, know at least a few
already and be more excited about learning the rest than you are about
much_less_important_subject in ["what's on tv tonight", "what you'll
eat for dinner", "most recent pop singer", "corporate jobs", "facebook
stalking"]

If you passionately care about how our world's energy is produced, and
believe that better software tools for monitoring and tracking how
clean energy is produced and used will drastically help lead to a more
sustainable future (like we do)... we have got to talk.

THE JOB:
We need someone to help us with the front-end of web application
development. This will be a bit vague because we don't have one
specific project in mind... but a few. These projects will be either
for our clients or for internal product development.

Skim through the following list, you should be able to hold your own
in a conversation regarding most of these topics. And the ones you
wouldn't be able to hold your own in, you should be able to after a
few hours of googling and hacking away on example code.

be rather vague because we don't have one specific project in mind,
but a few. These projects will be either for our clients or for
internal product development.

*what are ARM processors, why are they so damn special, where are they found
*when to choose COTS HW, when to develop your own HW
*how to design (primarily digital) circuits, prototype them in a lab
environment, lay them out into PCBs, test and verify them
*RISC vs. CISC architectures
*embedded C/C++: memory management, the fun of cross-compiling
*embedded IDEs and debuggers
*when to use an RTOS
*Python: when it should be used in embedded
systems, when it shouldn't, when it should be used around embedded
systems
*networking: the stack, where you like to jump into this stack, RS485
networks, Modbus, writing client-side software for http, ftp, telnet,
ssh, sftp
*dealing with file handles: for logging, for device
interfaces
*parsing data streams (ex: NMEA GPS data)
*do you get git or, at least, use svn
*how solar/wind DC->AC grid tie inverters work (at a high level)

THE JOB:
Ok, so even though most of the contracts we take on are in GreenTech, this one isn't. This one will be in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). This is a field that Dave has over 2 years experience with and is also very passionate about. ITS is all about making our transportation systems more effective and efficient. And the way we'll do this is by leveraging technologies that the auto sector might be slow to pick-up (ex: wireless communication, always connected cellular data channels, mobile device platforms).

Skim through the following list, you should be able to hold your own
in a conversation regarding most of these topics. And the ones you
wouldn't be able to hold your own in, you should be able to after a

*why would you want to build a well-documented framework for in-vehicle applications
*what is NMEA and why will it help you to "find yourself"
