Principal Engineer

As we move from stealth mode towards our alpha release, we’re looking a Principal Engineer to help take Shopply to the next level. You will be responsible for working across all tiers of our stack.

You’ll…

• Design – You’ll be leading the design of core parts of our offering. You will need to be comfortable designing data models, service layers, front-end investments, and have some exposure to designing and implementing natural language constructs and algorithms.
• Develop – As a Shopply engineer, you’ll be required to write code 90% of the time. You must be able to write clean, maintainable code. You’re design must be pattern-oriented, embody the spirit of the languages and tools we select, and be defensible through the code review process.
• Experiment – As a startup, we don’t do command and control development. We focus on a place on the mountain and then aggressively climb. This role requires a highly autonomous engineer who isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of the craft, and has the innate ingenuity to think well outside the box to get the job done, and to do it in a way that differentiates us.
• Lead – We’re a small team of experienced professionals from various disciplines. We’re looking for someone who is looking to lead, not only technically, but also contribute to the business through ideas, research, vision, and passion. This role would be ideal for a seasoned engineer who is ready to move into the cockpit and put some of their own ideas into action.

DevOps Engineer

At Shopply, we’re trying to make every online shopper a winner, and to do that, we are building some complex services. As we move from stealth mode towards our alpha release, we’re looking for a passionate Systems Engineer to own and drive our infrastructure investments, both from the sysadmin and DevOps perspectives.

You’ll…

• Design – With each release, we evolve and innovate our stack and processes. We’re looking for a core member of the engineering team, who will identify better ways to build, deploy and run our stack, using the latest best practices and technologies.
• Develop – The DevOps role sits inside engineering, and is a crucial part of both the software development lifecycle and the application lifecycle management process. You will be required to design and write automation software to manage and monitor the deployment of core infrastructure, support continuous integration of new software into the live site, and automate testing and reporting.
• Monitor and Operate – A major requirement for this role is monitoring and operating our infrastructure. This includes internal corporate systems (VPN, portals, email, etc) but most importantly, our production live sites. This is a 24/7/365 responsibility, so we are looking for someone who has experience in establishing the support and operations plan, and being the primary on all outages and incidents.
• Troubleshoot – Web scale services present interesting challenges around debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. The DevOps role will be responsible for trouble shooting outages and incidents, performing the root cause analysis, and restoring systems to full operational capacity. As such, you must be comfortable with issue identification and resolution using log analysis and code analysis in live environments.

Our development team primary uses Python on the server, and jQuery, Backbone, and Underscore on the client.
