Web Application Engineer in Cambridge

Panjiva is a venture-backed startup developing a next-generation information service for the millions of buyers and suppliers in the global supply chain. Founded by MIT and Harvard alumni and located in Cambridge, MA, Panjiva's technical team is creating the infrastructure that will transform how people and companies trade $10 trillion of goods each year across global borders. We’re funded by one of the world's top venture capital firms and the same angel investors that have backed Skype, AdMob, Posterous, and many other startups.

Our technical challenges are numerous: processing large amounts of incredibly valuable, but incredibly dirty data from multilingual sources around the world, leveraging machine learning and NLP techniques to enrich our data collection, and making our findings available to customers via intuitive user interfaces that support interactive, real-time analysis of the global supply chain.

Our development environment is highly collaborative, where team members teach as much as they learn. Our small team of MIT Computer Science alumni cultivate a work environment where peers can appreciate and challenge the solutions you develop. At this early stage, there is a great opportunity for leadership in the shaping of Panjiva's core architecture and its software engineering processes. We’re based in the heart of Kendall Square, about 15 feet from the Red Line T stop.

We are seeking an exceptional software engineers with a track record in building scalable, highly sophisticated web applications to play a leading role in Panjiva's evolution. You must have significant experience with full-stack web application development, both server-side and client-side, and be ready to take on the challenges of providing advanced, 24x7 information access capabilities to users across hundreds of vertical markets.

Panjiva is a venture-backed start-up that is seeking to transform global trade. Over the last four years, we have built the premier intelligence service for sourcing teams. Today, we maintain a searchable database of a million suppliers across 190 countries & virtually every supplier that serves the U.S. market. In the last two years, sourcing teams at over 1,500 companies (including over 25 Fortune 500 companies) have begun using Panjiva to find new suppliers. Over a million people use Panjiva’s free site every month. We are positioned to play a key role in connecting buyers and suppliers around the world, but we need your help to seize the moment.

We’re a small team of mostly MIT computer science grads who like hacking on business models and products as much as machine learning algorithms and browser-bending javascript. We’re a bunch of generalists who work on the entire stack; a given day’s checkins may include performance tweaks to our backend data processing pipeline, an updated multivariate landing page test, a parsing expression grammar for a new data source, upgrades to our deployment infrastructure to make better use of our CDN, or new parallelizing queries to make Panjiva search faster. Most of us have started companies before (one who co-founded a venture-backed company that was sold to VMware; another was a co-founder of a YCombinator company), love programming (one of our engineers has a lambda calculus tattoo), and enjoy discussing all aspects of the business and how our work impacts the global economy. Our development environment is highly collaborative, and we all teach as much as we learn. We launch new code many times a day, and have a lot of fun doing it.
