CEO (Educational Technology) in Fredericksburg

Educational technology startup looking for seasoned, experienced CEO with extensive (and real) financial contacts at all funding levels who are as passionate about the educational space as we are.

Our flagship product is already in use in the marketplace with outstanding results... we now need to build a team and market the product both domestically and internationally.

Company started in 1998, and was the first company to develop a fully internet-based Student Information System for K-12 schools, which besides being best-in-breed for school management, also automates the process of communication between home and school.

System is Linux-based (LAMP stack, for the technogeeks out there), is extremely easy to use, and currently has 17 discrete, seamlessly integrated modules, including classroom management, school management, and school accounting, and stands at just under 3 million lines of code. Will provide a more thorough description of features and functionality upon request.

Regularly beats competition hands-down in head-to-head RFP's, but loses because of lack of installed base. Company was self-funded by founder and developer, a former silicon-valley CTO. Has 98% teacher buy-in, 99% parent buy-in. Saves teachers 8-10 hours a week, and allows them to manage their classrooms from home.

The bottom line is that this company has been led by a non-MBA propeller-head (GREAT developer, so-so businessman), has been dogged constantly by bad timing in seeking funding (we started approaching VC's 2 weeks before the 2000 NASDAQ crash, and renewed our effort in 2002, 3 weeks before the market crash, and then again 1 week before the market crash of 2008) and has not been led by a seasoned CEO who could take this diamond-in-the-rough, and bring it fully to market. Founder has put more than $3M of his own money into it, and is now tapped out. The good news is that the product is on the market, has had screaming outstanding results, and simply needs a seasoned hand and a minimal amount of Angel cash to lead it to the Promised Land. The other good news is that the company is 100% debt-free.

View full job description | View company profile
