CTO / Co-founder in Washington

We are seeking a talented, hands-on CTO to help take our Internet company to the next level. We need an entrepreneur with extensive technical expertise who will make strategic decisions about architecture, approach and technologies. He or she must have broad-based application development experience and the judgment to balance decisions against user experience, cost, and implementation challenges.

As for specific technical skills: profound knowledge of Ruby on Rails and MySQL are crucial. Strong database scaling experience and familiarity with Amazon Web Services a huge plus. Demonstrated ability to apply Web development best practices with respect to scalability, security, usability, load-time, and basic search engine optimization is also important. The CTO will make substantive contributions to the development process beyond simply managing it. He or she will also be deeply involved in product strategy, feature prioritization and business strategy.

We’re in the process of raising capital, but plan to stay lean and nimble regardless of how much money we have in the bank.

The position is open to smart, entrepreneurial hackers. Computer Science degrees from top universities preferred. Must be self-driven and highly motivated to work both independently and with small teams. Initial compensation will be largely equity based. We’re located in Washington DC, but telecommuting is possible pre-funding.
